Fusion over fission - science rules & provides energy, parallels for defeating mental health issues

There’s so much information and headlines flying around these days, there should be a data FAA because before long somebody is going to get a cyber cut or we will see a data fog in the air. And not to mention the 5G issue where they have to throttle bandwidth down around airports, that was a little scary a week or so ago. How can that be real?

Well I don’t know what is real or not anymore sometimes, as many of us struggle with the universe and the metaverse, with more to come for sure. Ready Player One anyone, that will prove prophetic before too long. And then Elon Musk will sew a microchip in your head to control your body and the Mark Zuckerberg goggles on your head with a solar panel hat and you can go on endlessly capturing bitcoin from chopping up fruit.

Ok, so I got a little sidetracked there. Back to my original point – I saw this article on CNN today and the headline peeked my interest as a science geek and a teen stoner who can remember choking down a few donuts back in the day after catching a buzz. There’s not much on this planet that’s better than the red ‘Hot Now’ light being on at KrispyKreme when you just finished toking on a nice J and fishbowled the car with your buddies. Actually, there’s nothing better. So the article, again and my first thought was whether that galactic JET Tokamax machine comes glazed or with sprinkles on top:

The article itself is pretty cool, and makes you look deeper into the scientific principles, the physics and all that stuff. Nuclear power, the Simpsons, Chernobyl, radiation, Three Mile Island, Fukushima and that satellite image of radiation spewing throughout the Pacific Ocean in 2011 that made you rethink Ahi tuna. Also, there’s more pure science like particle accelerators, quirks, and many little neutrons and neurons are oscillating in your mind pretty fast. And then revealing itself mid-way through my read is the parallel from science and teachings of life yet again, ever present when we are attentive and open to the lessons. The quest for near-limitless, zero-carbon source of reliable power – now that would be powerful, but the word ‘near’ is the important one in that sentence. I have come pretty ‘near’ to being a zillionaire, being eaten by a shark, dunking a basketball and getting hit by a tractor-trailer. So 'near' has to be put in context and better outlined. But I digress again, the point being the following:

The breakthrough surrounds nuclear fusion, the same process that allows the sun and stars to shine (not wishes and dreams). The ever-long battle between physicists and nuclear engineers of fusion vs. fission and the search for energy and the end of the universe continues. While most current day nuclear energy is created by fission, the splitting of atoms and capturing the energy by-product of that splitting, this fission process comes with radioactive by-products and waste that will be on this earth for thousands of years. So, its not the preferred method, like dial-up and we are yearning for 5G broadband. Fusion is like pure, white Jedi light whereas fission is the death star and Darth Vader. They say fusion is much safer, much more sustainable with very little waste – sounds too good to be true, like there is no comparison between fusion and fission. There is still work to do in order to prove out fusion and overtake fission, but its just a matter of time and going through the process of development and growth.

And no wonder, when you think of it fundamentally and considering the topic of mental health that is so dear to my heart and needs to be spotlighted in our society.

Fusion - Of course two or more particles coming together will yield a better product and sustainable growth or energy in doing so. I hear fusion and I think of bringing things together, combine and have a better than 1 + 1 = 2 outcome. Takes me to wine, as most things do – a blend will always be superior to any single-varietal, sorry but it’s a fact and truth for me (but wine will be a future topic).

Fission - And of course breaking something apart is only a short-term solution with nasty by-products. I hear fission and I think cracks in the hull, taking on water and fracturing progress. A single boat on the sea, destined to sink.

If you are thinking of yourself and the energy needed to grow and make meaningful change in your life, you can’t do it alone – you need help from others, coming together whether it be through knowledge or partnership, love and fusion; trying to go it alone, and you are destined for fission, sure to expend or give off energy and eventually fall apart, crumble.

Applying the fusion concept of coming together to gain energy and new powers, just like the entropy concept of opening your system boundary to reverse disorder, we can see new ways to use scientific principles to eradicate mental health issues. You are not alone, open your system boundary, come together and great things and great change will result.

They say in the article “fusion energy really is no longer just a dream of the far future” well I would like to see us say that focusing on and making great progress in the mental health space is also no longer a dream and we are seeing the light, providing the focus and resources to destroy anxiety, depression, suicide, compulsion and addiction together. We now have the power.
